Gallipoli Writing

We put ourselves in the shoes of the soldiers on that fateful morning at Gallipoli. We had to write what we saw, heard, felt and what we wondered. Enjoy our wonderful stories and let us know what you think.

Online Cenotaph

Yesterday we researched a fallen soldier from World War One who is listed on the Romahapa Roll of Honour.
Lance Corporal Edgar James Burn was a school teacher.  He was the son of Edgar Huie Burn and Fanny Louisa Burn, of the School House, Romahapa, Otago, New Zealand. Edgar himself was a school teacher before setting off to war.
Edgar died of wounds on the 5th of October 1917 in Belgium. As a class we laid a poppy for Lance Corporal Edgar James Burn on the Auckland War Memorial Online Cenotaph.

The link above will take you to the online cenotaph where you can search for a relative or known local soldier and lay a poppy in remembrance.

Anzac biscuits

As Anzac day is fast approaching we decided to make Anzac biscuits for maths. We learnt about the meaning of the Anzac biscuit and some fractions along the way! I think everyone would agree they were delicious!

Field of Remembrance Service

On Monday we laid our field of white crosses. We marked out our field in straight rows, the same way as the soldiers marched.

On Tuesday we held our Field of Remembrance Service. Thank you to the parents and friends of the school who attended. Thanks also to Mr Richardson who came along to play The Last Post on his cornet.

Here are a few snippets of the service and our tribute to those New Zealanders that fought during 1914-1918.

Tribute to the Anzacs

On Monday we will be preparing for our ANZAC Memorial Service.
The service will be held at school on Tuesday the 21st of April at 2.30pm. Parents and friends are most welcome.
We hope to pay a fitting tribute to our fallen soldiers.

Letters Home

Finally I have these finished to share.
After our visit a fortnight ago to the Creative Arts World War 1 Exhibition we returned to school and thought about what it would be like to have gone to the war. These are the letters that the Middle Room wrote to their loved ones putting themselves in the position of someone serving in WW1.
I am very proud of this fantastic writing! I am sure our readers will thoroughly enjoy reading our letters home!!!
